Sex On Fire

This song is the Kings of Leon definitive anthem and is taken from their 2009 (4th) album, Only by the Night. Only true die hard fans will know that the band, consisting of 3 brothers and a cousin, (all of whom is known by his middle name) were actually formed in 1999 but it was the release of the Sex on Fire single that shot them to prominence.
Guitar-wise there are several riffs that feature throughout the song, with the most prominent being the intro, played by the lead singer/rhythm guitarist, Anthony Caleb Followill and the heavy over driven chorus played by the lead guitarist, Cameron Matthew Followill.
The intro and verse riff is split into 2 parts and uses an alternate string picking technique which is easy to pick up once you have the notes and pattern sorted. The only real difficulty playing this isif you are playing it in a band, although the challenge is for the other members because they have to come n after 1 and 2 and 3 and 4 and………Have a listen and you’ll know what I mean.
The chorus is the anthemic part of the song and the heavy guitar builds up an E major chord with an Eb note on the top E on the second beat of the second bar of the chorus that gives the guitar is distinctive flavour. This is then followed by a 2 string bend and heavy E major chord finish.
Guitar playing of exceptional originality – at a tempo of 153 beats per minute, if you’re interested!!

Today we're looking at Power Chords and the classic JJ Cale song Cocaine. Although this is very much more in the style of the Eric Clapton version.

Sad news................"The Father of Loud" Jim Marshall, the founder of Marshall amps, died today aged 88. Slash tweeted "The news of Jim Marshall passing is deeply saddening. R & R will never be the same w/out him. But, his amps will live on FOREVER!"

I say, set up yer stack and rock heaven 'till it shakes.

That man defined the heavy rock guitar sound.

Yes it's happy birthday to Johann Sebastian Bach...born in 1685. Did he influence any great rock guitarists????
