Life In The Fast Lane

Apparently this classic riff from this song, which features on the all time classic 1976 Eagles album Hotel California, was jammed by Joe Walsh whilst the band were warming up for rehearsals. He was instantly told to keep it safe “‘cos that is gonna be a song.” And it was.
The introductory riff is “central” to the whole song and is characterized by hammer ons and pull offs that give it the fluidity you can clearly hear.
It is also very subtle. This intro can, on a first listen, appear to be one riff played 8 times with a small break after every 2. However, when you start learning it you realize there are slight variances between 2 of the 4 segments, as well as variations between the length of the breaks. Very cleverly executed, giving it a real rocky/funky Joe Walsh feel.
And once you’ve learned the first riff, you can repeat the same notes one octave higher, which is what the second guitar plays as it joins in (and by” it” I mean Don Felder) halfway through.

Today we're looking at Power Chords and the classic JJ Cale song Cocaine. Although this is very much more in the style of the Eric Clapton version.

Sad news................"The Father of Loud" Jim Marshall, the founder of Marshall amps, died today aged 88. Slash tweeted "The news of Jim Marshall passing is deeply saddening. R & R will never be the same w/out him. But, his amps will live on FOREVER!"

I say, set up yer stack and rock heaven 'till it shakes.

That man defined the heavy rock guitar sound.

Yes it's happy birthday to Johann Sebastian Bach...born in 1685. Did he influence any great rock guitarists????
