Let’s Learn Some Great Easy Songs

Hi there, today we’re going to take a Step by Step look at learning easy guitar songs.

Now it may seem pretty obvious what you need to do to learn a song, but if you want to learn a song, and make it stick, then you need to learn it the right way. To demonstrate this approach I’ve taken a few videos from within the BandJammer Members site, to create a short sequence of videos that not only teach, but hopefully also entertain!

After all, playing guitar should be fun. Right?

To kick things off, I’m going to take you through a lesson from The Kooks song, She Moves In Her Own Way. This is a lesson for Rhythm Guitar, and here you’ll learn the chorus of the song. Also you can use this lesson to develop your chord changes and strumming techniques.

Step 1: My approach to learning guitar songs

Here’s my approach to learning songs on guitar. This is also how I teach everything within BandJammer. It’s simple, structured, and hopefully fun!

Step 2: Download The Kooks Song Structure and Chord Diagrams

So now you need to download and print (or view on screen) both the chord diagrams and song structure. Then with the song structure in front of you, the next step is to watch the band playing the song, and follow the song on the structure. This will help you become more aware of the different parts of the song, and how they all fit together.

Step 3: Watch The Band playing the full song

This song has different structured parts for both Rhythm and Lead Guitar.

Step 4: The Rhythm Guitar lesson for the Chorus

This song has a lovely melodic chord sequence and strumming pattern.

This is one of our series of Jam videos that’s available with each of the songs we teach. In this video we play down the Lead Guitar, so you can focus just on what the Rhythm Guitar is playing. This track also includes the drums, bass and vocals to help build you sense of rhythm and timing and to make it easier to follow the song structure.
