Create Solos

I really hope you’re going to find this fun!

In this session were looking a simple scales and how they can be used to create simple yet effective Melody lines and solos.

We have used the classic REM song Losing My Religion to demonstrate how this works. So, once you’ve got the scale and the feel for it we’ve recorded a simple chord sequence backing track for you to create your own solo for the song!

So let’s get started…

REM: Improvisation and creating your own Solo!

    sorry i have no web
just went over your video, thank you your scales and playing them helped me
since i never learned any kind of theory on the guitar, played by ear for 25 years
since i was 15 yrs. old in every night club and college dorms around greensburg, pa.
we played zz top, eagles, grand funk railroad, uriah heap doobie brothers, most all
    the top rockers
your instructions are very helpful especially the scales thank you, i will be looking
    for more.

Although I am not sure about what you call the A minor NATURAL scale.

Simple stuff for budding players. Great! Too many instructors forget that they themselves once had soft fingers and blank brains when they started out. Not you, Andy! You really understand the beginner’s mindset and frustration.

Excellent stuff. Keep it up. You will encourage more of us to dust off the ol’ axe, fire it up, and get busy living the dream!

    Hi Andy
I wish we had guitar teachers like you in Adelaide. You illustrate everything so clearly. I have had a teacher for the past 4 years and progress has been so slow because he chops and changes from week to week not to mention the attitude I have to put up with. I love so much everything you show via video. Never tire of watching you play

Today we're looking at Power Chords and the classic JJ Cale song Cocaine. Although this is very much more in the style of the Eric Clapton version.

Sad news................"The Father of Loud" Jim Marshall, the founder of Marshall amps, died today aged 88. Slash tweeted "The news of Jim Marshall passing is deeply saddening. R & R will never be the same w/out him. But, his amps will live on FOREVER!"

I say, set up yer stack and rock heaven 'till it shakes.

That man defined the heavy rock guitar sound.

Yes it's happy birthday to Johann Sebastian Bach...born in 1685. Did he influence any great rock guitarists????
