Crazy Train

The intro to this song is one of the most requested “how do I play that?” riffs ever.
Randy Rhoads was Ozzy Osbourne’s guitarist on this song, doubling all his guitar parts note for note. Not too bad for the intro, but for the solo? Ouch!
Anyway, the intro for this song is played on the A and bottom E strings (apart from the D5 and E5 power chords at the end) and needs to be executed very fluently – usually with a reasonable level of distortion on the guitar – if this piece of music is to be instantly recognisable.
The great thing about this riff, is that the notes are relatively syncopated and, once you have your left hand in the correct position, there is little movement required to be able to hit the notes at the correct speed and, of course, in the correct order.
If you are a relative beginner, the right hand may well prove more difficult than the left hand (vice versa if you are a left-handed guitarist) but whatever the outcome, you can turn up the distortion and sound impressive…….or blow the dust off your acoustic and use this introduction as a warm-up exercise.
Great song. Thanks Ozzy; thanks Randy.

Today we're looking at Power Chords and the classic JJ Cale song Cocaine. Although this is very much more in the style of the Eric Clapton version.

Sad news................"The Father of Loud" Jim Marshall, the founder of Marshall amps, died today aged 88. Slash tweeted "The news of Jim Marshall passing is deeply saddening. R & R will never be the same w/out him. But, his amps will live on FOREVER!"

I say, set up yer stack and rock heaven 'till it shakes.

That man defined the heavy rock guitar sound.

Yes it's happy birthday to Johann Sebastian Bach...born in 1685. Did he influence any great rock guitarists????
